The Big Band Era always brings back memories of those great bands and the evenings of enjoyment. Come listen to Professor Marcone’s musical selections and reflections on some of the most popular groups.

Stephen F. Marcone Lecturer Professor of Music and Chairperson, The William Paterson College of New Jersey The 1930s was the decade of the great big bands of American jazz. This discussion includes the stylistic differences of bands of that era due to race, location and other influences. Audio and video examples include, among others, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Harry James.

This program is offered through the Horizon Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
