Senior Issues FoWWSC

FoWWSC, as a 501 c-3 entity, there are some restrictions on FoWWSC activities. FoWWSC can offer information on topics to inform the public on the existence of issues and sources to obtain additional information. FoWWSC can hold public debates to explore public issues, provided a balance of views is included or opportunity is provided for opposing views. FoWWSC is non-partisan and cannot endorse any particular candidate or political party.

In the section below, we list a view of the current issues of particular interest to seniors. FoWWSC will explore how we might be of assistance in each of these areas.

TRANSPORTATION
TO SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES
IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR SOME TOWNSHIP SENIORS:

Transportation is reported to be a problem for some seniors to access events and programs offered at the West Windsor Senior Center.

Our Senior Center coordinates a team of volunteer drivers in a "Medical Rides" program. If you or a senior friend you know needs transportation to a medical appointment or to purchase drugs, call the center at 609-799-9068 to make arrange for this service.

Many residents share rides with those that are interested in participating at the Senior Center activities. Consider offering a ride to a neighbor, until this problem is addressed by the appropriate level of government.

Mercer County operates a Transportation system called TRADE. This service is for your benefit. Call 530-1972, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, up to 14 days prior to the date of your scheduled appointment. Demand Response appointment time slots are available from 9:30 AM to 1:30. PM. See www.njcost.com/mercer_info.htm.

FoWWSC is exploring alternatives to better understand the transportation needs of seniors. If a suitable plan can be devised, we will seek partners in funding the necessary costs. It is not clear, how many seniors need rides each week. In April, FoWWSC will conduct a follow-up inquiry on senior's need for rides during a typical week.
