FoWWSC Projects:

Over the years, FoWWSC projects have been selected to augment the senior center furniture, equipment, or augment senior center operation for the ultimate benefit of improved operations to benefit seniors.

In recent years, in order to facilitate timely acquisition of Senior Center supplies and services, FoWWSC has enabled a $1000 Petty Cash checking account for the Senior Center Director. The WWSC Director operators this account to facilitate more prompt procurement action than would ordinarily be afforded by the Township normal business practices. The Director reimburses Petty Cash funds expended from Township vouchers paid at a later date. This account represents an interest free loan from FoWWS to the WWSC Director for business use. The records and operation of this Petty Cash Fund can involve items of expense of any category that is necessary to sustain normal operation of the WWSC.

FoWWS Past Accomplishments:

Recent FoWWSC activities have enhanced Senior Center’s support for you.

  • Provided portable noise abatement screens to maximize utility of multi-purpose room.
  • Provided beverage station in the main activity room for participants.
  • Provided a much-needed computer for the Director's Office.
  • Facilitated corporate donation of computers for Computer Laboratory.
  • Funded Director's travel to seminars that led to National Accreditation for the Center.

In prior years, the FoWWSC projects have included:

  • Outdoor benches for the Senior Center entrance.
  • Maple Quilting Frame for crafts group.
  • Books for the reading area.
  • Table cloths and service aprons
  • Pool table for activity room.
(Please let us know if we have omitted some item!)

FoWWSC Programs for Year 2003

FoWWSC projects are intended to enrich senior activities. We will build slowly as we can get the sense of member desires and the needs at the Senior Center’s and at other spots in the Township. The bylaws establish a Programs Committee for planning. FoWWSC is seeking volunteers to serve in a variety of positions in support of program activity. Additionally, we are seeking your ideas to better meet our mission. This activity can be viewed in three primary categories:
  1. Projects - Activity to buy or acquire items needed to meet special needs.
  2. Community Events - Events sponsored by FoWWSC for enrichment, tickets maybe sold to defer cost.
  3. Fundraising Activities - Drives or events which have the primary purpose to raise funds.

A Suggestion Box has been placed in the WWSC lobby with forms to suggest either projects or community events. The box is near the Kiosk computer which scrolls to display participating group activities. Either send on your ideas by mail or email, or drop by the Senior Center and drop your suggestion into the box. See the Suggestion Form and make a suggestion by mail or email YOUR SUGGESTION.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS:
  • Events selected and Volunteers have come forward to support and plan:
    1. A Golf Outing-
The Golf Outing Committee has planned a May 20, 2004 event to be held at the Princeton Country Club Golf Course.
    2. A Evenings of Bingo-
The Bingo Event planning proceeded over the summer 2003. The Board has reviewed the cost of Bingo apparatus and has concluded that a PC based Bingo with large screen display would be most cost effective. With registration with the New Jersey Consurmer Affairs completed in October 2003, the next step is to begin the registration with the New Jersey Gaming Board, and then the WW Township registration will be the last regulatory hurdle.
    3. A Pancake Breakfast-
Programs Chairman Bob Thomas evaluated the event, and determined that the number of volunteers vs the net income did not make this project effective. The Board agreed to hold off on this event.

The new slate of officers have been evaluating FoWWSC operations and requirements. These discussions have identified other categories of potential future costs.

FoWWSC ADMINISTRATION COST ITEMS:
  • Buy adequate insurance for the equipment currently under FoWWSC responsibility.
In a recent review, we have established that your best move is to transfer currently owned equipment to the Township, and enable the Township to procure future equipment. The computers donated to FoWWSC are supporting Senior computer training sessions. These maybe a special case that will dictate the need for FoWWSC to buy property liability insurance. Talks are needed with the Township Administrator to see these equipments could be covered by existing policies.

  • Buy adequate liability insurance to indemnify the FoWWSC Officers.
This item is still under consideration. FoWWSC officer activity falls under the New Jersey "Charitable Immunity Act". This statute is intended to indemnify the actions of officers for actions taken in good faith. Only willful or grossly negligent actions are subject to prosecution. Measures to indemnify the FoWWSC Officers and related considerations need to be a part of the next bylaws update.

  • Buy software for WWSC staff to improve productivity for operations.

  • Apply for and purchase FoWWSC Postal Permit.
With building membership and more activity and events envisioned, the mailing expenses can be reduced with a non-profit postal permit. This matter can reduce the cost of solicitations for new membership and the cost of mailing to members to send back their contributions.
