As a 501 (c)(3) entity, FoWWSC is exempt from Federal Income taxes. Donors to FoWWSC may deduct contributions in accordance with IRS Code Section 170. Therefore, when you decide to donate to FoWWSC, or become a member, your dues and any other contributions are a tax deduction for you. The FoWWSC EIN is 22-2846082.
In an IRS Tax Exempt Letter of May 19, 1988, the IRS imposed the following caveat on FoWWSC activities:
"Contribution deductions are allowable to donors only to the extent that their contributions are gifts, with no consideration received. Ticket purchases and similar payments in conjunction with fund-raising events may not necessarily qualify as deductible contributions, depending on the circumstances. See Revenue Ruling 67-246, published in Cumulative Bulletin 1967-2, on page 104, which sets for the guidelines regarding the deductibility, as charitable contributions, of payments made by taxpayers for admission or to or other participation in fund-raising activities for charity."The complete three page letter is retained on file at the WWSC, and can be made available for your inspection.
For more information on current guidance, see IRS TPDS 85269R (7-96)
If you attend a ticketed fund raising event where food or beverage or other materials are provide, only that price of the ticket that is a gift by you for fund raising will be identified as federal tax deductible.
